FAQ

  • I am able to make ebook, audiobook, and print covers if you’re still writing your novel. But since your book isn’t finished and formatted yet the print cover(s) are not yet complete since I don’t have the proper measurements. The book must have a final word/page count so I can download the templates I need for your cover(s).

So, I can still make the print covers, but the print cover(s) will have to be put on hold until I receive the final page/word count of the formatted book.

**Please don’t wait last minute to message me with your word/page count in case I have a busy schedule the week you’re messaging me.

  • It depends on the genre and the back and forth communication with the author. Fantasy/Paranormal projects typically take longer for me to make.

Since I have a full-time job outside of my cover design business, I have to work on covers around my 9-5 schedule. If I’m only making an ebook cover it may take 1-3 weeks to complete (depending on the project’s needs). If I’m making an ebook, paperback, and/or hardback cover it could take around a month’s time to complete (depending on the project’s needs).

  • Since I want you to be happy with the cover's concept design, I will make several revisions (within reason) when creating the design’s concept, but when it comes to the final cover I can make small adjustments only.

See my DESIGN PROCESS page to see how I work and collaborate with authors on their covers. You may also view my Design Policies below if you need more clarification on how I handle cover revisions.

  • If you want a book cover with vector art illustration (example: contemporary romance or similar genres) I can create vector art characters or scenes through Adobe Illustrator.

If you’re wanting hand-drawn type illustrations (for fantasy or similar genres) I can draw certain elements (hair, magic, and more) on covers, but I am unable to give that hand-drawn illustrated look to realistic-looking characters. However, I can still create vector art designs for current trending styles in fantasy genres.

  • PNG, JPG, and PDF

If you also want your PSD file (Photoshop file) you’ll have to pay for that separately ($75 USD).

  • Premade cover sales are non-refundable.

For information on refunds regarding my custom cover packages, check out my Design Policies section that’s below the FAQ section.

  • I only use images from Deposit Photos and PixelSquid.

If you request any image(s) from another stock site then the cost of the requested stock image(s) will be added onto your invoice.

  • Since I have a full-time job outside of my cover design business, I only have enough time to create covers at this moment.

  • Yes, I can create more covers that play off the premade’s design in order to fit a new/existing series. I would make those covers at my custom cover prices.

DESIGN POLICIES

  • COVER REVISIONS

Premade Covers: I am able to make small adjustments to premade covers for free (for example: title, font, color scheme). If a large alteration is requested I will add a small agreed upon adjustment fee to the premade’s final balance.

Custom Covers: Since the author tells me everything they’re wanting with their cover when we’re nailing down the cover’s concept design, I can only make small adjustments to the final cover once I’ve completed it. The heavy design work, which has already been agreed upon by the author, has been finished at this point, so any major alteration requests may have an adjustment fee added to the invoice balance (depending on the request).

If you’d like revisions after the final cover(s) have already been delivered and you see an error on your print cover(s), let me know and I can fix the error. If you want revisions after the final cover(s) have already been delivered and the requested adjustments don’t have anything to do with how the cover(s) are printed, then a new invoice will be created and paid in full before I can make any new adjustments.

  • REFUNDS: PREMADE AND CUSTOM COVERS

Premade Covers: Premades are non-refundable. Once a premade cover is sold it’s all yours!

Custom Covers: Your 25% deposit will not be refunded if you cancel your design 30 days or less before your design's start date.

If you are unhappy with the final cover's result and would like a refund, I will waive the remaining invoice balance, but I will not refund the 25% deposit you had made when booking my services. If you paid your invoice in full and want a refund, I will refund 75% of what was paid and keep 25% of payment since that was the required amount for holding your booking date. At this point you won’t be using the cover I created, which means I have the right to sell that design as a premade cover (I will change your title to something else for resale).

  • REFUNDS: SERIES PACKAGE

If you booked my series discount package (where at least 50% of the series' total price is due upfront when booking) and later on you realize you only need one, two, or three covers instead of four for your series, I will credit the remaining amount you already paid for future cover design(s). There will be no time limit/expiration date on this credit.

If you cancel your series' designs at any time before your first cover's start date (and you choose to no longer use any of my cover design services) then you will only be refunded 10% of the amount you put down for the discount.

  • SOCIAL MEDIA PROMOTION

I will most likely post images of a finished custom cover on my social media accounts and my website as promotion for my cover design business. The final version of the cover will not be shared on social media until the author is ready for the cover to be revealed (I will only tag the author on Instagram if the author agrees to be tagged in that post). I am not obligated to promote a book on social media.

I will ask your permission in my book cover design questionnaire if I can vlog or post social media content of me working on parts of your cover (without stating that it’s your cover I’m working on). If you don’t want me to show behind-the-scenes content of your cover before your official cover reveal then I will not showcase your cover on my social media before then. I can, however, post behind-the-scenes content of me making your cover after you’ve revealed your cover to your audience and socials.

  • PAUSING YOUR COVER'S DESIGN

If you purchased a paperback/hardback cover but don’t have your book formatted yet, your print cover(s) can still be created, but they’ll have to be put on pause until I’m able to download the templates needed to complete the project. Since we can’t continue forward until the book is formatted, the rest of your invoice needs to be taken care of before pausing your design.

If you pause your design process for any reason and don’t pay your remaining balance then I cannot deliver the final ebook cover files or work on your print design(s) again until your balance is paid in full.

  • CREDITING

It’d be extremely helpful and beneficial to my business if you credit my design services in your book. Please credit me as BY THE BROOKE DESIGNS (all caps is preferred). It’d be even better if my business name was linked to my website in the ebook version of your novel, but this is not required.

  • COPYRIGHT & PSD FILE

When your cover is done I will only provide a PNG, JPG, and PDF of the design. The PSD file (my Photoshop file) isn’t included with the delivery of your cover’s files. The only way I can provide you with the PSD is if you purchase the copyright of the design (which is an additional $75 USD fee). I, Brooke Passmore, hold the copyright of the design unless full copyright is purchased. If you buy the copyright then you gain the PSD file and will have the ability to alter the file and/or create your own marketing materials from this file.

You can still create your own marketing materials without full copyright. The difference is with the PSD file you can remove the title/text, or move things within the image to create what you need.

  • STOCK IMAGES

I get my stock images from Deposit Photos and PixelSquid. If you request any image(s) from another stock site then the cost of the requested stock image(s) will be added onto your invoice.

I buy the Standard Stock License for images I use in a cover. Some stock sites may limit the quantity of print distribution allowed (up to 500,000 on Deposit Photos) for Standard Stock License images. So if your book becomes a big seller, you may have to purchase the extended licenses for those images that play a "major role" on your cover.

  • STOCK IMAGES & AUTHOR MERCH

Stock image licenses can get tricky when it comes to your cover being on author/book merchandise. If you're wanting to sell physical and/or web products (except print and ebooks) that has your cover on it, then you'll need the Extended License(s) for the main stock photos that play a "major role" in the cover. If your book/author swag has your cover on it and you want to make a profit from your marketing material, then you'll need to purchase the Extended Licenses for the images that play a "major role" in the cover.

Further information regarding the terms for Standard Image Licenses and Extended Image Licenses can be found at https://depositphotos.com/license.html.
